As a first-time homebuyer, you may be wondering if there are many benefits to owning a home that has previously been lived in. A resale home has a lot of advantages compared to a new home. As your Fort St. John Realtor, I have made a list of the top 6 benefits of purchasing a resale home.

  1. Repairs and Renovations: A resale home generally means a home that has had previous owners. The older the home, the more potential need for repairs and renovations. This means that the house will be listed at a cheaper price as it may need updating.  You can use the extra cash you will be saving on the purchase price, to renovate the home any way you’d like. This gives you full artistic freedom to alter or decorate any area of the house to your choosing.

  1. Durability: Once you find a home you like, make sure you get a home inspection to see if everything is in good condition. This will let you know if the home is durable and can withstand extra wear and tear since it has been previously occupied. Your home inspector will be able to tell you if the previous owners maintained this property well, so you will know what kind of condition you are working with.

  1. Appearance: Older homes generally have a classic appearance. Newer homes tend to all have the same shape, size, and color. If you wish to have something different than the “cookie cutter” image, then buying a resale home would be best for you.
