The 378 students of Alwin Holland Elementary all have culturally diverse backgrounds, and the middle-class neighbourhood where the school is located is just as diverse as the students. The school currently has 17 classroom teachers, a librarian, three prep teachers, a Reading Recovery teacher, and a learning assistance teacher. The school is also visited by a speech pathologist, a speech assistant, and a school district itinerant inclusion teacher who all help to assist and deliver programs to students. School District #60 (North Peace or Peace River North) serves residents of Fort St. John, as well as surrounding areas including Prespatou, Taylor, Buick, Hudson’s Hope, and Wonowon. The district was the first in the province of British Columbia to establish a laptop computer program, and because of this all students in grades six and seven (only grade six at Alwin Holland Elementary) are issued laptops for use either at home or at school.

Alwin Holland Elementary’s Parent’s Advisory Council (or PAC) is comprised of parents who strive to support the students, as well as offer input on general school operations. Parent volunteers assist with classroom and other school activities (with a current count of over 100 volunteers during the last school year).

The school is also proud to continue offering a breakfast program, a healthy snack program, and a healthy canteen program to its students, as well as offering a wide variety of healthy foods for students to choose from. Because Alwin Holland Elementary is officially designated as an “inner-city” school, it receives additional for social equity and school meals programs.
